Needs a bit more to it.

Not bad, but it's a little mindless and could use a few more interesting progressions to add some distinction. Could also use a bit more direction, but otherwise it's pretty good.

ErikPaladin responds:

I think it's a little bit empty at some parts, but I'm trying to improve it already. Thnx for the review.

Beautiful Imagery

This is an excellent piece as far as imagery goes - it makes for wonderful background music and would well set up the scene of an epic battle of sorts. I still think it could use a little more layering, rather than string chord progressions making up the bulk of the work, but in and of itself it still is good. The harmonies are lovely though and I love the flute at the end (I wish my recorders would record so nicely) Even the guitar blends in well. Definitely shows a lot of promise - keep up the good work and ignore unhelpful flamers who say otherwise ;)

Rottenbeard responds:

Thanks for the constructive criticism. I did originally experiment with more layering in the song but I just couldn't get it to sound right so eventually ended up giving up on the idea. At one point I even had soft guitar solos going through much of the piece over top the synth but it just wouldn't sit in the mix properly.

I also need to work within a 2 gb memory budget since FL Studio won't address more than that. This song hit 1.6 gb in samples so I was nearing the edge of what I could physically do with it.

If you're curious, the flute was recorded using a matched pair of Apex 185 mics in a stereo configuration. Nothing fancy! They're lower end home studio condenser mics but they sound fantastic. Paid $165 for the kit, with shock mounts, hardhsell case, omni and cardioid capsules and wind filters. Not a bad price!

Thanks for the feedback.

Daniel

I love the strings!

This has a wonderful, professional sound to it - the string sections in particular are really awesome. It looses a bit of momentum when the vocals first come in - maybe something higher that will keep the pace moving - but that aside, the rest is great. Just curious, what program did you use to record this? I'm in the market for something more effective than Finale.

Beautiful

This is really a pleasure to just play in the back - talk about instant relaxation. Really a pretty piece - the strings add such a pleasant touch. Awesome work! 10/10, 5/5

wow, such beautiful words, thanks for the wonderful scores! I'm glad you listened to my piece =)

Fun!

This is a rather fun piece, though I see your point about the weird sound of the chords. Perhaps you should look into getting a live recording to do it more justice? Do you have the sheet music at all? I'd be interested in trying to play it regardless - as I mentioned, it sounds very fun. 4/5, 9/10

Gorgeous!

This does sound like the vocalise - it's absolutely gorgeous! Is that you playing the violin? If so, you are a wonderful performer. Very, very beautiful! 10/10

More!

Please do finish this - it has a wonderful enchanted sound. I love it!

Very good, but could use a little more.

Wonderful progressions and a great grasp of the emotions and swells of the string section. It could use a little more though, I think. Perhaps a woodwind melody over the top or something to switch it up and make it more diverse? While the piece is good, it's very predictable and after about thirty seconds you already have the sense of the entire piece. 7/10

Wow thanks so much for your great comment I really appreciate it

Very Charming

This is a wonderfully relaxing piece - it has a great flow to it and seems like the perfect background music for reading a book. It's not extremely complex, but enjoyable none the less. Good work!

Tamadrum responds:

Thanks! If your interested in this type of thing, check out Jon Schmidt... his piano music is just incredible.
